Why this combo works
Iron gives the combo a neutral field, and copper adds warmth without overwhelming it. The Wayfinder template already reads like a compass, so the material choice supports the theme.
It fits map rooms, trail ruin digs, starter-base lore, and survival worlds where you want a believable mid-game outfit.
How to build Wayfinder
The full Wayfinder set needs one trimmed helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots. In survival, each smithing operation consumes one Wayfinder template and one copper trim material.
- 4 armor piecesIron helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots.
- 4 Wayfinder templatesFind one at Trail Ruins suspicious gravel, then duplicate it for the full set.
- 4 Copper materialsUse minecraft:copper_ingot once per armor piece.
- If starting from 1 templateDuplicate 3 times: 21 diamonds + 3 Terracotta.
- Find the Wayfinder smithing template from Trail Ruins suspicious gravel.
- Duplicate the template until you have 4 copies for the complete armor set.
- At a smithing table, combine each iron armor piece with the Wayfinder template and
minecraft:copper_ingot. - Repeat for helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots to complete the full Wayfinder set.
Wayfinder template duplication recipe
Duplicate Wayfinder smithing template
Crafting table recipe: 7 diamonds + 1 Wayfinder template + 1 Terracotta gives 2 Wayfinder templates. Starting from one found template, repeat this 3 times to prepare a full 4-piece armor set.
Smithing table recipe for each piece
Iron armor + Wayfinder template + Copper
Use the same recipe pattern for every armor slot. Each row below consumes one armor piece, one template, and one copper material.
Java /give command
Use these commands in Java 1.21+ to spawn the full Wayfinder set directly.
/give @s minecraft:iron_helmet[trim={pattern:"wayfinder",material:"copper"}] 1
/give @s minecraft:iron_chestplate[trim={pattern:"wayfinder",material:"copper"}] 1
/give @s minecraft:iron_leggings[trim={pattern:"wayfinder",material:"copper"}] 1
/give @s minecraft:iron_boots[trim={pattern:"wayfinder",material:"copper"}] 1
Bedrock notes
Bedrock Edition still expects you to apply trims at a smithing table. Give yourself the iron armor pieces, then combine each piece with the Wayfinder template and copper material.
Style notes and variants
Best for: Trail Ruins scout, cartographer, archaeology expedition.
- Wayfinder + Emerald on Iron for a richer explorer look
- Raiser + Copper on Iron for a more architectural trail-ruins set
